Super Bowl LI - Pre-match

Tonight sees the Atlanta Falcons, Champions of the NFC, take on the New England Patriots, champions of the AFC, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, to see who is crowned this seasons NFL champions and take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy as Super Bowl LI winners.

I've not got the deepest roots in American football, my first games were watching a friend who had attended a try-out for the local team, Shropshire Revolution, and been selected to play in their defence.  For a couple of years me and a couple of friends attended most home games and a couple of away matches, as we tried to understand this strange sport whilst enjoying the sun and a few beers. After the first few games I started to get the game, but one thing led to another and I stopped going to watch the games.

Fast forward a decade or so and I got gripped by Super Bowl fever in 2014, mainly down to the halftime show where Bruno Mars and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers were going to take to the stage. That year I watched the first half as I waited for the halftime show. In 2015 and 2016, I watched the entire game as I really started to enjoy the spectacle of the game and the halftime shows.

Each year I've watch the Super Bowl, I've been able to pick a side to root for as the team I follow most closely (Baltimore Ravens) haven't made it to through the playoffs. In 2014 I backed the Denver Broncos, in 2015 I wanted the Seattle Seahawks to win and last year the Carolina Panthers. You'll notice a theme here, since I started watching the Super Bowl who ever I want to win end up losing. So , I should apologise to all the Falcons fans out there, because this year I'm going to be supporting them. The main reason for wanting them to win is that I've not backed the Patriots in any of the previous games, so why start now! Looking at their form they do appear to have had some decent victories in the lead up to the Super Bowl so I'm hoping this continues.

The game is due to start soon, so it's time to get a few bits together and get ready for the game.
